Idol-Turned-Actress Confesses Why She Starved Herself Then Voluntarily Gained Weight Back

A Korean idol-turned-actress revealed the story behind losing 9kg by starving herself and the reason for voluntarily gaining the weight back.

On the 22nd, YouTube channel Yura Yura Hae uploaded a video featuring Girl’s Day member-turned-actress Yura and actress Kim Hee Jung.

The video shows the two chatting. They share a connection from co-starring in the 2023 film Marrying the Mafia: Returns. Reflecting on the filming, Yura said, “Back then, I was drinking almost every day. Before filming the movie, I weighed 47kg for four years, but I gained 8kg in just two months after filming.”

Kim Hee Jung responded, “56kg is normal for your height (170cm), isn’t it?” Yura confessed, “That was the first time my weight hit that number. I had never gone above 54kg before in my life.”
She also discussed the hardships of dieting by starving herself. Yura explained, “After hitting 56kg from drinking during filming, I aggressively starved myself and dropped back down to 47kg. I stopped drinking completely and barely ate. Suddenly, my cheeks hollowed out and my face looked much older. Losing weight when you’re young is different from losing weight when you get older. That’s why I gained it back.”

She continued, “When I gained back up to 50kg, my face looked a bit better. But people kept asking, ‘Are you sick? You should get a health check.’”
