For single moms, child support is not “extra money.” It is food, school supplies, medical costs, clothes, transportation, and every other expense that comes with raising a child. TV star Ji Yeon Soo is making that clear.

On June 29, 2026 (KST), Ji Yeon Soo uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel, where she addressed stories and concerns submitted by single mothers. One of the stories mentioned an ex-husband who allegedly failed to pay child support on time while showing off luxury items on social media.

Ji Yeon Soo did not hold back as she shared her thoughts.

Child support is money that helps raise a child as they grow up, so it is the child’s right. But no matter how much you argue that to former spouses, they act like they’re giving their own money to this woman. Men need to change that way of thinking.

Ji Yeon Soo then spoke about Korea’s child support calculation standards, pointing out that the current amount does not reflect the actual cost of living. “There is a child support calculation table,” she explained, “But it’s from several years ago. Prices keep going up, but the calculation table is still lacking, so it’s nowhere near enough.”

She then revealed the amount she receives from her ex-husband, former U-KISS member Eli.

Ji Yeon Soo explained that the minimum child support amount is currently ₩640,000 KRW (about $417 USD) KRW for the youngest children. She added that child support must be paid until the child graduates high school. When the production team mentioned that many people do not receive child support at all, Ji Yeon Soo gave a brutally honest answer.

“You have to live on with zero expectations,” she said.

If you keep thinking about it, you’re the only one who ends up collapsing. In fact, rather than clinging to child support, it’s better for me to quickly get a part-time job.

Ji Yeon Soo married Eli in 2014, and the former couple welcomed their son in 2016. They later divorced in 2020. Since then, Ji Yeon Soo has spoken candidly about life after divorce, single motherhood, and her relationship with her ex-husband—who has since gotten remarried.
