Manon was recently announced to feature in KATSEYE’s upcoming project, despite the circumstances surrounding her hiatus.

It seems that as a result, a past clip from the idol have resurfaced, involving her confusing BTS’s J-Hope for another member of the group.

On this post, another netizen brought up an aspect of her Instagram account as another point of racism.

Manon currently has several highlights on her Instagram account, with most documenting her travels around the world.

Each of the highlights seems to feature a painting done in similar styles, related to the region. For the Korean highlight, the idol has an image of “That Luang Festival of Luang Prabang” by Sompaseuth Chounlamany.

The That Luang Festival is a sacred Buddhist celebration that takes place in Laos.

Many netizens saw this as a form of racism, accusing Manon of seeing Asians as a monolith by selecting a random painting rather than one made by a Korean artist or featuring Korea.

  • “She even made an Instagram Highlight called ‘KR’ with photos from her trip to Korea, but used artwork from a Lao festival as the cover image. That’s such blatant hypocrisy… Is discrimination against Asians considered the ‘acceptable’ kind of racism?”
  • “These foreign members work for a Korean company and even have Korean friends, yet they don’t show Korea even the slightest bit of respect. Seriously, stop debuting foreign members like this. They don’t even seem grateful that Korea gave them the opportunity to debut, and there are way too many foreign idols who act so disrespectfully. They treat Korea like an easy target, and it pisses me off.”
  • “Manon has always seemed kind of racist. Just compare the way she treats Asian fans with how the other KATSEYE members treat their fans.”

Some did come to her defense, stating that several of the paintings used did not match the countries, including one by Raphael, an Italian artist, representing Mexico, and another by French artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau representing U.S.A. Some do match, either with the subject or the artist being connected to the location.
