Korean Actor Who Suddenly Retired Due To Debt Gears Up For Hollywood Debut

A Korean actor who halted his acting career after incurring billions in debt is now targeting the international stage. It is reported that he has embarked on a new path aiming to break into Hollywood.

According to Star News on September 29th, Jang Dong Joo has recently been secretly participating in overseas project auditions and exploring global activities. He has been in contact with multiple foreign production companies and industry insiders, building local networks with the possibility of a Hollywood debut in mind, laying the groundwork for his overseas work.

Jang Dong Joo studied abroad in Auckland, New Zealand, and Minnesota, USA, during his childhood. Having gained an understanding of English and Western culture through living abroad, he is preparing for global activities based on this experience. Recently, he has broadened his reach by conducting live broadcasts in English on TikTok, directly engaging with overseas fans.

He is activating a “two-track” strategy that balances domestic business and global activities. Especially, the company he leads, Wooson Group Inc., is expected to become a crucial foundation for his future international projects and operations.

Earlier, on the 21st, Jang Dong Joo stated to Star News that Wooson Group is devising mid- to long-term growth strategies in preparation for an initial public offering (IPO) and is working to strengthen its business competitiveness.

He explained, “Building on my experience in content and entertainment gained through acting, as well as my experience with academy and agency businesses, we are expanding business concretization, while also broadening Wooson Group’s portfolio to include investment, culture and arts, and space business.”

It is reported that Jang Dong Joo received business management training firsthand from his father, Jang Myung Cheon, chairman of World General Construction, with decades of experience. Based on this, he has maintained a sustained interest in corporate growth strategies, investment, and business expansion alongside his acting career.

His plan is to expand his range of activities beyond acting to include corporate management and entertainment activities, extending his reach to overseas markets. To this end, Jang Dong Joo is widely reviewing ways to build local networks in the US, strengthen his English acting skills, and explore overseas auditions and project participation, preparing to enter the global content market.

Jang Dong Joo, having expanded his roles from actor to creator and entrepreneur, is now pursuing new challenges by looking again toward the international stage.
