Son Ye Jin Faces Unexpected Backlash Over Comments About Her Son

Actress Son Ye Jin‘s mention of concerns about her and her husband Hyun Bin‘s son surprised netizens, sparking unexpected backlash.

On September 29th, an interview for Son Ye Jin’s Netflix series The Scandal took place in Seoul. During the interview, Son Ye Jin candidly shared her feelings about recent sightings of her during travels.

She said, “We got married with many people’s blessings, so I think the interest in our child is inevitable. While my husband and I can’t avoid being photographed, if our child’s face is exposed, it might scare him.”

She also added that if someone secretly films her son, she approaches them to request deletion of the footage.

However, public reactions to Son Ye Jin’s remarks were surprising. Some critics referenced her previous mentions of her son on broadcasts, saying things like, “She seems obsessed with showing him off,” and “Son Ye Jin talks about her son the most.”

Previously, Son Ye Jin appeared on JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator and proudly talked about her son. When asked, “What if your son becomes an actor?” she replied, “I’m a bit biased, but with that face, it would be hard not to become an actor,” adding with a laugh, “He looks like me.”

After the episode’s preview was released, Son Ye Jin posted on her account, “Why did I say that? Why did I say ‘he’s got a face that makes it hard not to be an actor?’ Bragging about my child is pretty embarrassing. It’s probably going to be harder to go out now, my son,” showing a hint of regret.

Amid the backlash, however, others defended her, stating, “Son Ye Jin is a public figure, but her son isn’t. I understand her frustration,” and “It’s only right to ask people to delete unauthorized photos.”

Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin tied the knot in March 2022 in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and welcomed their son in November of the same year.
