The production team behind a K-Pop girl group’s own content has come under heavy criticism from fans for choosing an insensitive topic that disregarded a member’s past trauma.

On October 30th, a video titled “Cheering for All NSWERs in the World” was uploaded to NMIXX‘s YouTube. In this video, the members conducted an impromptu acting test through shorts content to deliver support to their fans.

The issue arose with the first acting prompt given: the provocative scenario of “acting out a house burning down.” Upon hearing this, Lily calmly said, “I don’t even have to act for this one,” instantly creating a somber atmosphere on set.

Lily suffered great pain as a child after a major wildfire occurred in her hometown when she was 8 years old. The fire in question was the 2009 Australian “Black Saturday Bushfires” in Victoria, considered the worst fire disaster in the state’s history. Marysville, where Lily lived, was directly hit, and the disaster was so severe that some residents lost their lives.

This fire was also what led Lily to start singing. She revealed during a past audition program, “So much was destroyed and many people died. It gave me trauma, so I wouldn’t go outside and I was afraid of the wind.” She spoke about healing her pain through music.

Lily’s calm comment left the other members taken aback, with remarks like “Don’t do this, seriously,” and “Why bring this up?” expressing shock and criticism toward the production team.

Once the video was released, fans expressed outrage online over the production team’s thoughtless planning. Comments included, “How could they stage such a scenario with Lily here? That’s psychopathic,” and “What are they doing on such a good day? Apologize to Lily immediately,” delivering harsh criticism.

As the controversy spread, the problematic scene was removed from the YouTube video. However, the pain Lily faced by confronting the trauma on set and the members’ embarrassment remain unchanged.

With reckless planning that ignored the artist’s personal history and trauma, voices calling for more thorough review and genuine care in producing idol’s self-created content are growing louder.
