The Ministry of Employment and Labor has launched an investigation against MBC‘s popular variety show I Live Alone following controversy.
According to Sports Kyunghyang on October 22nd, the Gangwon Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Central Regional Employment and Labor Office received a report alleging insufficient safety measures related to I Live Alone, assigned the case, and began an investigation.
The ministry plans to investigate whether the bungee jumping operator violated safety obligations under the Industrial Safety and Health Act.
The episode of I Live Alone aired on the 16th, showing actor Gu Sung Hwan attempting bungee jumping. However, viewers questioned the lack of visible safety precautions for the staff assisting with the jump after the broadcast.
“I Live Alone” Accused Of Safety Negligence Amid Multiple Other Controversies
This led to a safety-related complaint being filed through the People’s Petition system on the 19th, prompting the ministry’s probe.
Under the Industrial Safety and Health Act, employers must implement safety measures to prevent accidents when workers are at risk of falling. If violations are confirmed, the employer faces penalties of up to five years in prison or fines up to ₩50.0 million KRW (about $37,700 USD).
