JYP Entertainment Experiences Struggles, Allegedly Due To Stray Kids

JYP Entertainment has reported a sharp decline in its second-quarter earnings, with the absence of major Stray Kids activities cited as one of the biggest factors.

On August 12, JYP Entertainment announced preliminary consolidated results for the second quarter of 2026. The company recorded ₩183 billion KRW (about $130 million USD) in revenue and ₩31.0 billion KRW (about $21.9 million USD) in operating profit.

Compared to the same quarter in 2025, revenue dropped 15.1%, while operating profit plunged by a much steeper 41.4%. Net profit also declined 40.3%, reaching ₩21.7 billion KRW (about $15.4 million USD).

One major reason behind the decline was reportedly the difference in Stray Kids’ activities between the two periods. During the comparable period last year, Stray Kids generated significant revenue through large-scale concerts and merchandise (MD) sales. With fewer major activities from the group during this year’s second quarter, JYP Entertrainment faced a particularly high base of comparison.

The decline in operating profit was additionally attributed to lower overall revenue and increased commission-related selling and administrative expenses. The results once again highlighted just how significant Stray Kids have become to JYP Entertainment’s financial performance, with a relatively quiet period for the group having a noticeable impact on the company’s quarterly numbers.

However, JYP Entertainment expects the situation to improve as Stray Kids ramp up their schedule. The group released a new mini album on August 7, 2026, and is preparing for another large-scale world tour, while the company expects Stray Kids’ activities to increase throughout the second half of 2026 and into 2027.

With one of its biggest revenue-generating acts returning to full-scale promotions and touring, attention is now on whether JYP Entertainment’s earnings will rebound accordingly.
