CROSS GENE debuted in 2012 under Amuse Korea and was active until 2021. The group debuted as a sextet but currently consists of only two members: Shin Wonho and Yongseok.

On May 27, CROSS GENE teased a new release with a “coming soon” image featuring two shadowy figures and the release date: June 8, 12:00 PM (KST).

The mystery release is “Helicopter,” a new single and music video to celebrate CROSS GENE’s 14th anniversary and their enduring love for their fans. However, the release has disappointed fans due to its AI-generated music video.

Shin Wonho responded to the backlash on Instagram, posting his response to his stories in Korean, English, and Japanese. He admitted to using AI due to a shoulder injury, and that he would be sharing more details during a YouTube Live.
