Roy Kim Upset Over Controversy Involving Ji Ye Eun’s Wedding And Kim Jong Kook

Singer Roy Kim directly clarified the controversy surrounding the wedding for actress Ji Ye Eun and dancer Vata.

Previously, on October 22nd, in a video on the YouTube channel Gym Jong Kook, Roy Kim shared the difficulties of frequently receiving requests to perform wedding songs but being unable to easily accommodate them.

He said, “When I’ve done it for someone, others say, ‘You’re somewhat close to that person, so shouldn’t you do it for me too?’” He continued, “Because I couldn’t perform the wedding song, they’d badmouth me behind my back.”

In response, Kim Jong Kook asked, “Didn’t Ye Eun ask you to sing at her wedding, and you said you would?” When Roy Kim hesitated, Kim Jong Kook immediately called Ji Ye Eun. She replied, “I think that’s right,” and trailed off with, “If you really didn’t want to do it…”

Hearing this, Roy Kim said, “It’s not that I didn’t want to,” breaking into a sweat. Kim Jong Kook added, “The company made it a principle not to perform wedding songs.” Ji Ye Eun then responded, “Then why did you say you would do it back then?” which drew laughter.

As this scene spread in a short video, some viewers reacted as if Roy Kim had reversed his promise to perform the wedding song.

Subsequently, on October 30th, Roy Kim addressed the so-called “wedding song reversal” controversy during a live broadcast on his own social media account.

He said, “These days, articles and shorts about the wedding song have been flooding in since Gym Jong Kook. What’s certain is that I never promised to perform the wedding song, but it seemed like I made the promise and then didn’t do it, which was a bit disappointing. It was Jong Kook hyung who made the promise.”

Roy Kim also shared his feelings about the various reactions surrounding him recently. He said, “I’ve been very active lately, so there’s a lot of content that can spread about me. There are many casual judgments and offhand remarks, and while I try not to be shaken, when I do waver, I hope you will help me.”

He added, “Humanity feels increasingly scarce. I’m actually someone who lives with love for humanity, and seeing the audiences who come to my concerts makes me want to raise that again.” He also urged, “Please be careful with your keyboards, remembering that when criticizing someone, the arrows (harsh words) could come back to you.”

Born in 1994 and the same age, Ji Ye Eun and Vata will hold their wedding ceremony on December 12. The wedding song will be performed by Kim Jong Kook.
