“That’s Rape” — Drama’s Assault Scenes Between Main Couple Disgusts Viewers

A scene from a trending drama has gone viral, sparking backlash.

Recently, the series The Lament of Autumn, a period drama based on the novel Yu Dian Qi, premiered. The show tells the story of a student accused of attempting to assassinate the son of a powerful family, and the relationship that develops.

During the Republic of China era, student Ye Pingjun is falsely accused of trying to assassinate the Yu family’s fifth son. She gives Yu Changxuan ten days to find the real culprit as he secretly grows closer to her.

Ye Pingjun is not interested in Yu Changxuan, resulting in scenes where Yu interacts with an unwilling Ye.

Changxuan: “Don’t get smart with me, I don’t care about your philosophy, I only know, you’re in my head all the day.”

AND THEN HE USES ALL HIS MIGHT TO KISS HER TWICE 🔥😱😭#TheLamentOfAutumn #ChengLei #XuRuohan pic.twitter.com/FZHI5bV6Cf

One of these scenes features angered Yu Changxuan stating he would use his body to make her understand since words did not. He then pins her to the bed, where he kisses her as she tells him to stop.

Ultimately, he lets her go before walking out of the room.

the way pingjun immediately wraps her cardigan around herself, curls up hugging herself, bites her hand to suppress her sobs and cries silently while trembling after being harassed

The scene has gone viral, with netizens and viewers weighing in on the story.

Some believe it is a “dark romance,” and that the story and characters reflect that.

You all are sooo pathetic trying to bring in morality were it should not exist…..Not everyone want to watch a drama with sweet romanceee…..yes I love forced trope and heavy angst romance..yes I know what the premise of the drama is and I’m still sat for it#TheLamentOfAutumn

Others feel that a series featuring assaults like the ones depicted so far is not one that could be considered romance, with some saying they have since stopped watching.

Exactly I can’t even continue watching it. It doesn’t sit well with me at all

The way these dramas romanticize assault by slapping some soft piano music on it, and people eat it up. It’s literally attempted rape, not a love story.
