TUIDE’s Debut Marks A Major Failure In HYBE’s Track Record

TUIDE, the newest girl group to debut under the management of HYBE, appears to have failed to make much of an impression with its debut.

The group officially debuted on August 24, KST, with their first EP titled Tune & Play and lead single, “Sun Kiss.”

However, the hype around the group has remained lukewarm, which many found unexpected for a “Big 4” artist. Recently, an online community post went viral after pointing out that TUIDE is the only HYBE girl group whose debut song failed to enter the Melon chart. Given that Melon is the biggest music streaming service in Korea, its charts are somewhat indicative of any artist’s popularity domestically.

The O (original poster) pointed out that LE SSERAFIM’s debut song, “Fearless,” had charted at #8 on the chart, while NewJeans’s “Attention” and ILLIT’s “Magnetic” both secured the top spot. Meanwhile, “Sun Kiss” failed to even enter the top 100, charting at #108.

Netizens responded to the post with brutal remarks about the reason behind TUIDE’s lack of mass appeal.

• “The song is good, but the member lineup is a bit disappointing.”
• “The song is good, but the members are a bit underwhelming. KiiiKiii is kind of the same way. The songs are good, but…”

• “The lineup feels a bit too bland and ordinary.”
• “NewJeans were truly amazing. It really hits home now. And I can see why that pathetic guy went mad with jealousy lol.”

• “They don’t seem to be promoting it at all. I didn’t even know the song was out lol. I don’t think I’ve seen it mentioned on Theqoo either.”
• “The song is good, but the concept planning seems to have failed. I really don’t get why they went all the way to Iceland just to shoot such a gloomy music video.”
