She was battling a very hard disease while also being vilified for it.
TWICE member Jeongyeon has made a difficult revelation about her health that has left fans heartbroken.

Recently, tvN‘s popular variety show, You Quiz On The Block, released a short video through its official YouTube channel where Jeongyeon talked about how her elder sister, actress Seungyeon, has constantly been a pillar of strength for her during her toughest life storms.

In the video, Jeongyeon talked about her elder sister with pride and affection, and shared that back in 2020, when she had to pause her activities due to health issues, she relied heavily on Seungyeon for support. While the TWICE member was suffering mentally, her sister was the one who realized that something was off within her body and pushed her to get checked at a hospital.
Seungyeon unnie was the one who helped Jeongyeon to get treated🥹💚

Thanks to Seungyeon’s push, Jeongyeon was able to get diagnosed, and the doctors found that she had Cushing’s Syndrome. According to medical sources, this condition is caused by excessive cortisol in one’s body, and medications can be one of the reasons for someone to develop this syndrome. The most common symptoms of Cushing’s include, but are not limited to, weight gain, skin changes, fatigue, high blood pressure, and even diabetes.

Jeongyeon was able to get the proper treatment and regain her health, and she gave all the credit to her sister for holding her through this difficult period.
This revelation has stirred up major reactions among TWICE fans. While some were enraged that JYP Entertainment didn’t share this news with fans, others felt that fans were not entitled to such private medical information in the first place.
This is the first time Jeongyeon tell us her illness other than her cervical herniated disc…probably that makes her take another hiatus🥹
She’s suffering from “Cushing’s Syndrome”.
JYPE never told this and bcus of this. people call her out, body shaming her and so on…JYPE🤬 pic.twitter.com/lhJaDWpzbc

the framing of “the company never told us about this so they are at fault for not protecting her from abusive body shaming comments” is not just invasive and entitled but also victim blaming. the symptom of the issue is kpop and its fans are extremely fatphobic

while i’m glad that jeongyeon’s cushing syndrome is more known now (she mentioned it somewhere before), i don’t think that neither jeongyeon not jype is obligated to share personal medical conditions with us. if jeongyeon wants to share it, it will be known. if not, it won’t.…

However, the majority of the fans were left devastated that Jeongyeon had to deal with such a difficult diagnosis while being constantly scrutinized and torn apart by the media and opinions on the internet. Many expressed their disappointment with JYP Entertainment for not being more proactive in protecting the idol from the unnecessary vitriol.
The amount of pain and suffering Jeongyeon went through is literally beyond anyone’s imagination. Just imagine having to deal with all of that under the spotlight, with millions of eyes watching and judging your every move. pic.twitter.com/mg6YQg6CTG

jeongyeon got dragged left and right for the way she looked while fighting that nasty illness behind closed doors. shame on JYPE for not doing anything about the tidal waves of hate she recieved.

Knowing that Jeongyeon was fighting Cushing’s Syndrome in silence while being mindlessly attacked breaks my heart. JYPE failed her, but her sister’s love saved her. She went through so much for us. Always by your side, Jeongyeon 💚
