Two I.O.I Members Finally Address Their Dorm-Era “Beef”

Reunited I.O.I members Jeon Somi and Kim Doyeon are setting the record straight on their long-speculated “beef,” which turned out to be far more unexpected than fans might think.

The two idols recently appeared on an SBS entertainment program, where the topic of past arguments among I.O.I members came up. When asked who fought the most during their time living together, fellow members immediately pointed to Somi and Doyeon, prompting laughter and curiosity.

Opening up about the situation, Somi admitted that their clashing communication styles were at the heart of the tension. “Doyeon unnie really didn’t like my tone,” she explained, recalling how even small interactions could be misunderstood at the time. Doyeon agreed, clarifying that it wasn’t intentional conflict, but rather how she perceived Somi’s way of speaking.

The moment that turned their differences into a full-blown argument, however, came from something surprisingly trivial: bread.

Somi shared that she had been washing dishes in their dorm when Doyeon asked if she could eat a piece of bread sitting on the table. After casually responding, “Yeah, go ahead,” she was caught off guard when Doyeon suddenly took issue with her tone.

Even now, it still feels absurd. I was doing the dishes in the dorm, and I  had left some bread out on the table. Unnie asked me, ‘Can I eat this bread?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, go ahead.’ But then she got mad like, ‘What’s with the attitude?’

The exchange escalated quickly, with Doyeon retreating to her room and slamming the door. Not long after, Somi received a lengthy message from the agitated unnie explaining how she felt about the interaction and how she wished to be treated.

From Doyeon’s perspective, the situation looked different. She recalled asking politely, only to feel taken aback by what she interpreted as a blunt response. “I asked nicely, but it came off cold to me, so I reacted,” she explained.

Fortunately for us, the pair were able to put the bread drama behind them and remain irreplaceable friends over the next decade!
